Shadows

Saturday is subsumed in the shadow of Wednesday.

The Daily Post in all their wisdom has moved the Weekly Photo Challenge to the maelstrom of mid week madness.

Solitude

With the crash of the waves and the wind in my hair I’m the lone walker on an empty beach. My senses are sharpened, my thoughts crystal clear, I’m at peace.

Solitude is refreshing, invigorating, clarifying..

Ambience

The Chinese Garden of Peace, Darling Harbour, Sydney a haven of tranquility and beauty smack bang in the middle of the frenetic city.

Both uplifting and calming, the ambience of these gardens is dominated by the aesthetic  layout and enhanced by the sound of running water.

In the early and mid 20th century the Australian economy rode on the sheep’s back. Fine grade Merino wool was our greatest export and once, the bailed wool was stored in the place I now call home. Hessian wrapped wool bales were marked with paint swiped over a stencil to indicate the source of the wool.

My photo of a remnant of a bale marking stencil is from an historic sheep station in The Francois Peron National Park

It’s not this time of the year without…….

Cherries have played a big role in my adult life. For many years we lived in a house surrounded my cherry orchards. The first Tuesday in November marked the beginning of cherry season, and generally by the turn of the new year the cherries and all been picked and sent to market.

It’s not this this time of the year without cherries.

Magical sunset

Magic happens, when the sky is clear, when the light is low, when the setting sun is a golden glow.

Magic happens.

Transmogrify

Transmogrify

Transmogrify Spain 2011

This is not a pretty picture.

I was shocked to come across industrial tomato growing practices on a monstrous scale in Spain. Square kilometres of the countryside were blanketed in plastic.

The ruin of a Moorish watchtower looms over the scene. It had been erected to guard against the rape and pillage of the land.

The transmogrification of this section of the Mediterranean coast is horrific.
